Vlad Dracula was a member of the Order of the Dragon, which was founded as a military order in the period of the crusades. The order?ÇÖs goal was to fight back Ottoman expansionists and defend the Catholic Church.

The name Dracula meant ?ǣSon of the Dragon,?ǥ which is derived from the order.

With his foes spreading tales of him slaughtering thousands and drinking their blood, the legend of Vlad Dracula has grown so much that it?ÇÖs almost impossible to separate fact from fiction. Many of these legends have been spread by the enemies he terrorized.
