The dead man's hand was the five-card stud poker hand held by James Butler Hickok (better known as "Wild Bill" Hickok) when he was shot in the back of the head by the coward Jack McCall on August 2nd, 1876, in a saloon in Deadwood, South Dakota. While there are various accounts of the event, it is generally agreed that the hand included a pair of aces and eights of the black suits while the fifth card is debated.
